My daughter, 18 years old, used Brian to help prepare her for the Oxford entrance interview process, which was obviously unfamiliar territory and about which she was apprehensive. Brian spent two sessions, each lasting two hours, tutoring her at home, where my daughter found him authoritative, reassuring and professional. Coupled with Brian's ready enthusiasm and friendly manner, she was able to both improve her interview technique and develop a new found confidence. My daughter received an offer from Oxford. We would recommend Brian without hesitation.
We can thoroughly recommend Brian as a Classics tutor. He produces high quality tuition, he is inspiring and transmits great enthusiasm for the subject.
Brian ensures that his lessons are built on solid foundations and tailors his work accordingly. He is conscientious, always well prepared, never late - despite travelling from one end of London to the other - and helped our daughter Poppy to achieve A*s in both Latin and Greek A-Levels.
I have only the highest praise for the wonderful tutoring that Brian gave our son in the lead up to his Common Entrance exams. We gave Brian a difficult task - to bring our son's mock CE exam result of 35% up to a more acceptable level in only 2 months. In just six lessons, one each week after school, Brian rebuilt the somewhat shaky foundations of our son's CE Latin, working progressively towards giving him confidence in his ability to tackle the subject and the forthcoming exams. We were all so thrilled when his Latin CE result came through - he scored an "A" grade! Brian was a consummate professional - extremely organised, polite, punctual and, above all, very much liked by both our son and our family. We cannot thank him enough for his invaluable help and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him as a home Latin tutor.
In a short and concentrated course of tutorials, Brian was able to improve our son's understanding of Latin clause structure and grammar which helped him to achieve a significant improvement in passing his Common Entrance Latin exam.
Brian was an extremely professional and experienced tutor for the Oxbridge admissions process. He immediately picked up on my son's weak points, encouraged him in his endeavours and was a delight to have around. My son found him inspiring and motivating. I would recommend him highly.
Brian was an enormous help to me, when I was applying to Oxford. He knew exactly what the tutors were looking for. He also provided me with focused advice on my UCAS personal statement to help make my application as relevant as possible. Most of all though, he was both engaging and patient in language tutorials whenever I struggled and he had a remarkable ability to make what had often appeared so complicated suddenly appear very simple. I couldn't recommend him highly enough either as a tutor of both classical languages or as a mentor in the Oxbridge application process.
We appointed Brian to tutor two of our sons for GCSE Latin. In each case he proved highly effective in identifying their areas of weakness, refreshing basic skills and improving their understanding of the subject. His teaching experience meant that he rapidly developed a good working relationship and improved both their effectiveness in personal study and exam technique. This helped increase their confidence levels and had a beneficial impact on their performance. Both scored high marks in their exams. I would recommend Brian highly as a tutor.
While undertaking my Latin GCSE course I found myself struggling with the curriculum to the point that I was certain I would fail the course. However I enlisted the help of Brian. With two extra lessons a week, focusing on Latin vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure, Brian not only helped me obtain a pass but I was awarded an A grade overall. I would certainly recommend his tutorship to anyone wishing to understand and enjoy learning about Classics and the Ancient World.
